May 17, 2004 Everett Herald Box 930 Everett, WA 98206 Dear Editors: A May 11 letter writer who claimed to have “dear friends who are gay” was shocked by the presence of protestors at the Safeco field anti-gay marriage rally. She might want to talk to her gay friends about the kind of abuse that gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people and their friends and families regularly endure at pro-gay religious conferences, worship services, and public celebrations. She might also want to try attending a pro-gay religious conference, worship service, or public celebration to experience the love of the participants and the hatred of the protestors, or even better, attend the wedding of a same-gender couple to see for herself that marriage, unlike the Safeco field rally, poses no threat to anyone. Sincerely, Barbara Lamond Purdom Christopher Purdom Interfaith Working Group Coordinators
