March 20, 2004 The Washington Post 1150 15th Street NW Washington, DC 20071 Dear Editors: Thank you for your reasonably balanced March 15 article “Same-Sex Marriage Issue Challenges Religious, Political Ties.” It is sad and unfortunate that anti-gay religious teachings are just as divisive, destructive and prominent in predominately African American churches as in most of A merica’s faith traditions and religious communities. Discrimination and oppression are discrimination and oppression whether prompted by skin color, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, or any other human characteristic. Sincerely, Barbara Lamond Purdom Christopher Purdom Interfaith Working Group Coordinators
